North America power industry tenders in Q2 2020: The US leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, the US led the activity in Q2 2020 with 566 tenders and a share of 84.1%, up 5.3% over the previous quarter and up 71% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Canada with 106 tenders and a share of 15.8% and Puerto Rico with one tender and a share of 0.1% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, the US held the top spot with 331 tenders, followed by Canada with 100 and Mexico with one tender.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in Q2 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 243 tenders and a 75.9% share, followed by solar with 48 tenders and a 15% share and hydro with 15 tenders and a 4.7% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in North America power tenders activity during Q2 2020, with 323 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (249) and Energy Storage (45).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 499 tenders and a 74.1% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 120 tenders and a 17.8% share
  3. Project Implementation: 41 tenders and a 6.1% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: eight tenders and a 1.2% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: five tenders and a 0.7% share.

Power tenders in Q2 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Dominion Energy (United States): 1,250MW from one tender
  2. Entergy Services (United States): 1,200MW from one tender
  3. The AES (United States): 1,000MW capacity from one tender.
