North America power plant contracts activity down 19% in Q4 2021

There were 44 power plant contracts announced in the North America region in Q4 2021, marking a drop of 19% over the last four-quarter average of 54, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Electricity Procurement stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q4 2021 with 52 contracts and a 26.5% share, followed by Power Plant with 44 contracts and a 22.4% share and Generation Equipment with 43 contracts and a 21.9% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 39 contracts and an 88.6% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 6.8% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: two contracts and a 4.5% share.

Solar is top technology for North America power plant contracts in Q4 2021

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 29 contracts with a 65.9% share, followed by wind with seven contracts and a 15.9% share and hydro with four contracts and a 9.1% share.

North America power plant contracts in Q4 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Weyerhaeuser (United States): 1,000MW from one contract
  2. Chem-Energy (United States) and Omaha Public Power District (United States): 600MW from one contract
  3. Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (United States): 400MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Apex Clean Energy Holdings (United States): 1,000MW from one contract
  2. M. A. Mortenson (United States): 900MW from two contracts
  3. Zachry Group (United States): 600MW capacity from one contract.
