North America Solar technology contracts activity drops 4% in Q3 2020

North America solar technology contracts in Q3 2020 saw 97 contracts announced, marking a drop of 4% over the last four-quarter average of 101, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of solar technology contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement with 46 contracts and a 47.4% share
  2. Project Implementation: 26 contracts and a 26.8% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 17 contracts and a 17.5% share
  4. Electricity Supply: seven contracts and a 7.2% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 1% share.

The US tops North America solar power contracts activity

The US was the top country in the North America region for solar technology contracts recorded in Q3 2020 with 90 contracts and a 92.8% share, followed by Canada with six contracts and a 6.2% share and Mexico with one contract and a 1% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Microsoft (United States): 500MW from one contract
  2. Clean Power Alliance (United States): 464.9MW from three contracts
  3. Longroad Energy Holdings L (United States): 331MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Sol Systems L (United States): 500MW from one contract
  2. First Solar (United States): 476MW from two contracts
