North America Solar technology contracts activity drops 11% in Q4 2020

North America solar technology contracts in Q4 2020 saw 101 contracts announced, marking a drop of 11% over the last four-quarter average of 114, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of solar technology contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement with 50 contracts and a 49.5% share
  2. Project Implementation: 27 contracts and a 26.7% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 14 contracts and a 13.9% share
  4. Electricity Supply: nine contracts and an 8.9% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 1% share.

The US tops North America solar power contracts activity

The US was the top country in the North America region for solar technology contracts recorded in Q4 2020 with 95 contracts and a 94.1% share, followed by Canada with five contracts and a 5% share and Mexico with one contract and a 1% share.

North America solar technology contracts in Q4 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Amazon Web Services (United States): 1,210MW from two contracts
  2. Northern Indiana Public Service Co L (United States): 1,180MW from four contracts
  3. Terra-Gen L (United States): 1,118MW capacity from one contract.

North America solar technology contracts in Q4 2020: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Mortenson Construction (United States): 1,118MW from one contract
  2. NextEra Energy Resources L (United States): 900MW from three contracts
  3. Acciona Energia (Spain): 641MW capacity from one contract.
