Global power industry contracts in April 2020: Solar technology up 69%

Solar technology contracts activity in April 2020 saw 214 contracts announced, marking a rise of 69% over the last 12-month average of 127, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the top position in terms of number of contracts during April 2020 with a 56.9% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 170 contracts and a 79.4% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 24 contracts and an 11.2% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 15 contracts and a 7% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two contracts and a 0.9% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: two contracts and a 0.9% share
  6. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 0.5% share.

Europe leads solar contracts activity in April 2020

Comparing contracts activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 153 contracts and a share of 71.5% during April 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 26 contracts and a 12.1% share and North America with 25 contracts and an 11.7% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with eight contracts and a 3.7% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with two contracts and a 0.9% share.

Solar technology contracts in April 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. NHPC (India): 2,000MW from five contracts
  2. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (United Arab Emirates): 900MW from one contract
  3. Ministere de l’Environnement, de l’Energie et de la Mer (France): 741.01MW capacity from 126 contracts.

Solar technology contracts in April 2020: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. ACWA Power International (Saudi Arabia): 900MW from one contract
  2. SB Energy (Japan): 600MW from one contract
  3. Axis Energy Ventures India Pvt (India): 400MW capacity from one contract.
