Power industry contracts in April 2020: Europe leads global activity

On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 245 contracts and a share of 58.9% during April 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 67 contracts and a 16.1% share and North America with 66 contracts and a 15.9% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 25 contracts and a 6% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 13 contracts and a 3.1% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Europe held a lead over others with 115 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 79.

Solar tops by technology in April 2020

Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 214 contracts and a 56.9% share, followed by wind with 122 contracts and a 32.4% share and thermal with 21 contracts and a 5.6% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment during April 2020, with 242 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (79) and Electricity Procurement (42).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 239 contracts and a 57.5% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 100 contracts and a 24% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 41 contracts and a 9.9% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 18 contracts and a 4.3% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 17 contracts and a 4.1% share
  6. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 0.2% share.

Power contracts in April 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. NHPC (India): 2,000MW from five contracts
  2. Ministere de l’Environnement, de l’Energie et de la Mer (France): 1,490.51MW from 161 contracts
  3. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (United Arab Emirates): 900MW capacity from one contract.

Power contracts in April 2020: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. ACWA Power International (Saudi Arabia): 900MW from one contract
  2. SB Energy (Japan): 600MW from one contract
  3. M. A. Mortenson (United States): 548.2MW capacity from two contracts.
