Asia-Pacific power industry contracts in August 2021: India leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, India led the activity in August 2021 with 24 contracts and a share of 24.2%, up 1.1% over the previous month and up 20% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by China with 18 contracts and a share of 18.2% and Malaysia with 17 contracts and a share of 17.2% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, China held the top spot with 26 contracts, followed by India with 20 and Australia with 11 contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in August 2021

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 54 contracts and a 57.4% share, followed by wind with 23 contracts and a 24.5% share and hydro with seven contracts and a 7.4% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in August 2021, with 36 contracts, followed by Power Plant (36) and Generation Equipment (16).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 32 contracts and a 32.3% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 29 contracts and a 29.3% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 21 contracts and a 21.2% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 11 contracts and an 11.1% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 3% share
  6. Electricity Supply: two contracts and a 2% share

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Hubei Energy Group Xiangyang Yicheng Power Generation: 2,000MW from one contract
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,600MW from five contracts
  3. Tsingshan Holding Group (China): 1,140MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 2,000MW from one contract
  2. Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction (China): 1,140MW from one contract
