Asia-Pacific power industry contracts in December 2021: China leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, China led the activity in December 2021 with 41 contracts and a share of 33.1%, down 8.5% over the previous month and up 28% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by India with 39 contracts and a share of 31.5% and Malaysia with seven contracts and a share of 5.6% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, China held the top spot with 32 contracts, followed by India with 20 and Australia with nine contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in December 2021

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 74 contracts and a 71.2% share, followed by wind with 13 contracts and a 12.5% share and thermal with seven contracts and a 6.7% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in December 2021, with 62 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (26) and Generation Equipment (19).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 63 contracts and a 50.8% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 25 contracts and a 20.2% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 21 contracts and a 16.9% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 11 contracts and an 8.9% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 2.4% share
  6. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 0.8% share.

Power contracts in December 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 8,885MW from nine contracts
  2. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (Taiwan): 1,200MW from one contract
  3. Anhui Energy Group (China): 900MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Adani Green Energy (India): 4,667MW from one contract
  2. Azure Power (India): 2,333MW from one contract
  3. China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 2,006MW capacity from eight contracts.
