Asia-Pacific power industry contracts in March 2022: China leads activity

 

Looking at contracts by country, China led the activity in March 2022 with 71 contracts and a share of 57.3%, up 12.3% over the previous month and up 115% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by India with 16 contracts and a share of 12.9% and Australia with ten contracts and a share of 8.1% during the month.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in March 2022

 

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 63 contracts and a 56.8% share, followed by wind with 29 contracts and a 26.1% share and thermal with 15 contracts and a 13.5% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in March 2022, with 60 contracts, followed by T&D Project (34) and Generation Equipment (27).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 49 contracts and a 39.5% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 27 contracts and a 21.8% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 22 contracts and a 17.7% share
  4. Supply & Erection: 22 contracts and a 17.7% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four contracts and a 3.2% share.

 

Power contracts in March 2022: Top companies by capacity

 

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. China Huadian (China): 3,000MW from one contract
  2. Hubei Qichun Garden Pumped Storage Power Station: 1,200MW from one contract
  3. ArcelorMittal (Luxembourg): 975MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. China Power Engineering Consulting Group (China): 11,027MW from 14 contracts
  2. Greenko Energies (India): 975MW from one contract
  3. PowerChina Nuclear Engineering (China): 500MW capacity from three contracts.
