Asia-Pacific power industry contracts in May 2022: China leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, China led the activity in May 2022 with 74 contracts and a share of 70.5%, up 17.2% over the previous month and up 76% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by India with 15 contracts and a share of 14.3% and Vietnam with three contracts and a share of 2.9% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, China held the top spot with 42 contracts, followed by India with 21 and Australia with eight contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in May 2022
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 53 contracts and a 57% share, followed by wind with 22 contracts and a 23.7% share and thermal with 14 contracts and a 15.1% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in May 2022, with 61 contracts, followed by T&D Project (28) and Generation Equipment (17).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 58 contracts and a 55.2% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 16 contracts and a 15.2% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 12 contracts and an 11.4% share
- Supply & Erection: 11 contracts and a 10.5% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: eight contracts and a 7.6% share.
Power contracts in May 2022: Top companies by capacity
The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:
- China Southern Power Grid (China) and Vietnam Electricity (Vietnam): 1,200MW from one contract
- SJVN (India): 1,000MW from one contract
- People’s Government of Yongfu County: 900MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:
- China Energy Engineering (China): 2,523.99MW from 11 contracts
- PowerChina Hubei Engineering (China): 2,450MW from two contracts
- Tata Power Solar Systems (India): 1,300MW capacity from two contracts.
