Asia-Pacific power industry contracts in September 2021: China leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, China led the activity in September 2021 with 32 contracts and a share of 40%, up 15.6% over the previous month and up 19% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by India with 19 contracts and a share of 23.8% and Japan with nine contracts and a share of 11.3% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, China held the top spot with 27 contracts, followed by India with 20 and Australia with 11 contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in September 2021

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 32 contracts and a 45.1% share, followed by wind with 23 contracts and a 32.4% share and thermal with nine contracts and a 12.7% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in September 2021, with 34 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (25) and Generation Equipment (24).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 28 contracts and a 35% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 24 contracts and a 30% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 17 contracts and a 21.3% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: eight contracts and a 10% share
  5. Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 3.8% share.

Power contracts in September 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,440MW from ten contracts
  2. Sun Ba Power (Taiwan): 1,100MW from one contract
  3. Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution (India): 1,000MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. CTCI (Taiwan) and Siemens Energy (Germany): 1,100MW from one contract
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India) and PowerChina Hubei Engineering (China): 1,000MW from one contract
  3. JSW Renew Energy (India) and Adani Renewable Energy Holding Fifteen (India): 450MW capacity from one contract.
