Power industry contracts in December 2020: Europe leads global activity

On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 128 contracts and a share of 39.8% during December 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 86 contracts and a 26.7% share and North America with 62 contracts and a 19.3% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 26 contracts and an 8.1% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 20 contracts and a 6.2% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Europe held a lead over others with 165 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 92.

Wind tops by technology in December 2020

Looking at contracts by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 97 contracts and a 37.7% share, followed by solar with 93 contracts and a 36.2% share and thermal with 42 contracts and a 16.3% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment during December 2020, with 108 contracts, followed by Power Plant (70) and Electricity Procurement (62).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 153 contracts and a 47.5% share
  2. Project Implementation: 79 contracts and a 24.5% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 59 contracts and an 18.3% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 16 contracts and a 5% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: 12 contracts and a 3.7% share
  6. Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 0.9% share.

Power contracts in December 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution (India): 3,085MW from one contract
  2. Amazon Web Services (United States): 1,945MW from seven contracts
  3. Terra-Gen L (United States): 1,118MW capacity from one contract.

Power contracts in December 2020: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Adani Power Maharashtra (India): 3,085MW from one contract
  2. China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 1,497.8MW from five contracts
  3. East China Electric Power Design Institute (China), Anhui No.1 Electric Power Construction (China) and Anhui No.2 Electric Power Engineering & Construction (China): 1,320MW capacity from one contract.
