Europe power industry contracts in Q3 2021: Russia leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, Russia led the activity in Q3 2021 with 71 contracts and a share of 21.5%, up 19.2% over the previous quarter and up 689% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Germany with 43 contracts and a share of 13% and the UK with 40 contracts and a share of 12.1% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, France held the top spot with 97 contracts, followed by the UK with 78 and Spain with 60 contracts.

Wind is top technology area for contracts in Q3 2021

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 152 contracts and a 51.9% share, followed by solar with 90 contracts and a 30.7% share and hydro with 22 contracts and a 7.5% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in Europe power contracts activity during Q3 2021, with 138 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (73) and Electricity Procurement (56).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 131 contracts and a 39.7% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 96 contracts and a 29.1% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 54 contracts and a 16.4% share

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Fortum-Rusnano Wind Investment Fund (Russia): 1,390.5MW from 31 contracts
  2. China Energy Engineering Group International Engineering (China) and China Energy Engineering Group Northeast No one Electric Power Construction (China): 860MW from one contract
  3. Unigreen Power (Russia): 545MW capacity from ten contracts.
