Power industry contracts in February 2021: Asia-Pacific leads global activity
On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 101 contracts and a share of 37% during February 2021, followed by Europe with 98 contracts and a 35.9% share and North America with 36 contracts and a 13.2% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 22 contracts and an 8.1% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 16 contracts and a 5.9% share.
On the basis of the last 12-month average, Europe held a lead over others with 175 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 98.

Solar tops by technology in February 2021
Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 98 contracts and a 40.7% share, followed by wind with 91 contracts and a 37.8% share and thermal with 25 contracts and a 10.4% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment during February 2021, with 85 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (80) and Electricity Procurement (54).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 95 contracts and a 34.8% share
- Supply & Erection: 90 contracts and a 33% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 49 contracts and a 17.9% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 17 contracts and a 6.2% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 16 contracts and a 5.9% share
- Electricity Supply: five contracts and a 1.8% share
- Others: one contract and a 0.4% share.
Power contracts in February 2021: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Andhra Pradesh Green Energy (India): 6,400MW from 12 contracts
- Nuclear Power Corporation of India (India): 2,000MW from one contract
- Manila Electric (Philippines) and Ministry of Energy and Mines, Laos (Laos): 1,800MW capacity from one contract.
Power contracts in February 2021: Top winners by capacity
The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Adani Renewable Energy Holding Twelve (India): 3,000MW from five contracts
- Larsen & Toubro (India): 2,400MW from two contracts
- Shirdi Sai Electricals (India): 2,200MW capacity from four contracts.
