Global power industry contracts in February 2021: Solar technology down 38%

Solar technology contracts activity in February 2021 saw 98 contracts announced, marking a drop of 38% over the last 12-month average of 158, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the top position in terms of number of contracts during February 2021 with a 40.7% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 38 contracts and a 38.8% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 35 contracts and a 35.7% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 19 contracts and a 19.4% share
  4. Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 3.1% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two contracts and a 2% share
  6. Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 1% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar contracts activity in February 2021

Comparing contracts activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 51 contracts and a share of 52% during February 2021, followed by Europe with 18 contracts and an 18.4% share and North America with 13 contracts and a 13.3% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with ten contracts and a 10.2% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with six contracts and a 6.1% share.

Solar technology contracts in February 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Andhra Pradesh Green Energy (India): 6,400MW from 12 contracts
  2. Mytilineos (Greece) and National Grid Renewables L (United States): 200MW from one contract
  3. Diverxia Infrastructure (Spain) and Hoosier Energy Rural Electric Cooperative (United States): 150MW capacity from one contract.

Solar technology contracts in February 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Adani Renewable Energy Holding Twelve (India): 3,000MW from five contracts
  2. Shirdi Sai Electricals (India): 2,200MW from four contracts
  3. NTPC (India): 600MW capacity from one contract.
