Gas was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of contracts for the month, accounting for 23 contracts and a 54.8% share, followed by Coal with ten contracts and a 23.8% share. Oil stood in third place with nine contracts and a 21.4% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the third position in terms of number of contracts during July 2020 with a 14.8% share.
The proportion of contracts by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 22 contracts and a 62.9% share
- Project Implementation: seven contracts and a 20% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two contracts and a 5.7% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: two contracts and a 5.7% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 2.9% share
- Electricity Supply: one contract and a 2.9% share.
Asia-Pacific leads thermal contracts activity in July 2020
Comparing contracts activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 12 contracts and a share of 34.3% during July 2020, followed by Europe with ten contracts and a 28.6% share and North America with seven contracts and a 20% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with four contracts and an 11.4% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with two contracts and a 5.7% share.

The top issuers of contracts in Thermal technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Electric Power Generation Enterprise (Myanmar): 1,250MW from one contract
- Tatenergo (Russia): 858MW from one contract
- Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (United States): 36MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Marubeni (Japan), Mitsui & (Japan), Sumitomo (Japan) and Eden Group (Myanmar): 1,250MW from one contract
- ENKA Insaat ve Sanayi (Turkey): 858MW from one contract
- Wartsila (Finland): 236MW capacity from two contracts.
