Power industry contracts in June 2020: Europe leads global activity

On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 181 contracts and a share of 49.9% during June 2020, followed by North America with 78 contracts and a 21.5% share and Asia-Pacific with 73 contracts and a 20.1% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with 18 contracts and a 5% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with 13 contracts and a 3.6% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Europe held a lead over others with 132 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 80.

Solar tops by technology in June 2020

Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 153 contracts and a 52.4% share, followed by wind with 95 contracts and a 32.5% share and thermal with 21 contracts and a 7.2% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment during June 2020, with 132 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (89) and T&D Equipment (63).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 132 contracts and a 36.4% share
  2. Project Implementation: 130 contracts and a 35.8% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 56 contracts and a 15.4% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 24 contracts and a 6.6% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: 19 contracts and a 5.2% share
  6. Electricity Supply: two contracts and a 0.6% share.

Power contracts in June 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 10,000MW from eight contracts
  2. Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzbekistan): 1,500MW from one contract
  3. Akita Yurihonjo Offshore Wind GK (Japan): 700MW capacity from one contract.

Power contracts in June 2020: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Adani Green Energy (India): 8,000MW from one contract
  2. MAPNA Group (Iran): 984MW from two contracts
  3. Kajima (Japan): 700MW capacity from one contract.
