Global power industry contracts in June 2021: Thermal technology down 11%

Thermal technology contracts activity in June 2021 saw 33 contracts announced, marking a drop of 11% over the last 12-month average of 37, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Gas was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of contracts for the month, accounting for 26 contracts and a 74.3% share, followed by Coal with six contracts and a 17.1% share. Oil stood in third place with three contracts and an 8.6% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the third position in terms of number of contracts during June 2021 with a 9.8% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 14 contracts and a 42.4% share
  2. Supply & Erection: nine contracts and a 27.3% share
  3. Project Implementation: seven contracts and a 21.2% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: three contracts and a 9.1% share.

Asia-Pacific leads thermal contracts activity in June 2021

Comparing contracts activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 11 contracts and a share of 33.3% during June 2021, followed by North America with 11 contracts and a 33.3% share and Europe with five contracts and a 15.2% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with four contracts and a 12.1% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with two contracts and a 6.1% share.

The top issuers of contracts in Thermal technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Lausitz Energie Bergbau (Germany): 300MW from one contract
  2. Oil India (India): 30MW from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Southwest Electric Power Design Institute (China): 1,320MW from one contract
  2. Siemens Energy (Germany): 300MW from one contract
  3. China Energy Engineering (China) and China Gezhouba Group International Engineering (China): 120MW capacity from one contract.
