Wind technology contracts activity in March 2020 saw 76 contracts announced, marking a drop of 4% over the last 12-month average of 79, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of contracts for the month, accounting for 51 contracts and a 66.2% share, followed by Offshore with 26 contracts and a 33.8% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the second position in terms of number of contracts during March 2020 with a 31.1% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 42 contracts and a 55.3% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 11 contracts and a 14.5% share
  3. Project Implementation: 11 contracts and a 14.5% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: nine contracts and an 11.8% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 3.9% share.

Europe leads wind contracts activity in March 2020

Comparing contracts activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 35 contracts and a share of 46.1% during March 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 30 contracts and a 39.5% share and North America with eight contracts and a 10.5% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with two contracts and a 2.6% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with one contract and a 1.3% share.

The top issuers of contracts in Wind technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Philippines Department of Energy (Philippines): 1,100MW from two contracts
  2. CleanCo Queensland: 400MW from one contract
  3. New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (United States): 187.4MW capacity from three contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Triconti ECC Renewables (Philippines): 1,100MW from two contracts
  2. Acciona (Spain): 400MW from one contract
  3. RATCH-Australia (Australia): 179.99MW capacity from two contracts.
