Middle East and Africa power industry contracts activity in November 2021 saw 28 contracts announced, marking a drop of 22% over the last 12-month average of 36, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Middle East and Africa power industry contracts in November 2021: Saudi Arabia leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, Saudi Arabia led the activity in November 2021 with five contracts and a share of 17.9%, up 3.6% over the previous month and down 17% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Burkina Faso with four contracts and a share of 14.3% and South Africa with two contracts and a share of 7.1% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, Saudi Arabia held the top spot with six contracts, followed by South Africa with three and the United Arab Emirates with three contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in November 2021

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 14 contracts and an 82.4% share, followed by thermal with two contracts and an 11.8% share and wind with one contract and a 5.9% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in November 2021, with nine contracts, followed by Power Plant (7) and Electricity Procurement (5).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

1. Project Implementation: 13 contracts and a 46.4% share
2. Supply & Erection: seven contracts and a 25% share
3. Power Purchase Agreement: five contracts and a 17.9% share
4. Consulting & Similar Services: three contracts and a 10.7% share.

Power contracts in November 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

1. General Electricity Company Of Libya (Libya): 500MW from one contract
2. Qair Group (France) and STOA (France): 66MW from two contracts
