North America power industry contracts in January 2022: The US leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in January 2022 with 47 contracts and a share of 100%, up 6.8% over the previous month and down 22% when compared with the last 12 month-average.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 60 contracts, followed by Canada with four and Mexico with one contract.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in January 2022

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 19 contracts and a 54.3% share, followed by wind with 13 contracts and a 37.1% share and thermal with two contracts and a 5.7% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in January 2022, with 35 contracts, followed by Energy Storage (12) and Generation Equipment (4).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 35 contracts and a 74.5% share
  2. Supply & Erection: seven contracts and a 14.9% share
  3. Project Implementation: three contracts and a 6.4% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 2.1% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 2.1% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:
