North America power industry contracts in July 2021: The US leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in July 2021 with 53 contracts and a share of 91.4%, up 5.7% over the previous month and down 16% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with five contracts and a share of 8.6%.
Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 63 contracts, followed by Canada with six and Mexico with one contract.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in July 2021
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 36 contracts and a 64.3% share, followed by wind with 11 contracts and a 19.6% share and nuclear with four contracts and a 7.1% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in July 2021, with 29 contracts, followed by Power Plant (15) and Generation Equipment (14).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Power Purchase Agreement: 28 contracts and a 48.3% share
- Supply & Erection: 13 contracts and a 22.4% share
- Project Implementation: nine contracts and a 15.5% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five contracts and an 8.6% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: two contracts and a 3.4% share
- Electricity Supply: one contract and a 1.7% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:
- Intersect Power (United States): 1,041MW from three contracts
- Central Coast Community Energy: 488.3MW from six contracts
- Amazon.com (United States): 474MW capacity from one contract.

- Signal Energy Constructors (United States): 728MW from two contracts
- TotalEnergies (France): 546MW from two contracts
- PCL Construction Group (Canada), Allan Construction (Canada) and Allan Ventures (United States): 360MW capacity from one contract.
