Power industry contracts in North America for March 2022 down 48%

North America power industry contracts activity in March 2022 saw 33 contracts announced, marking a drop of 48% over the last 12-month average of 64, according to GlobalData’s power database.

North America power industry contracts in March 2022: The US leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in March 2022 with 28 contracts and a share of 84.8%, up 10.8% over the previous month and down 51% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with five contracts and a share of 15.2%.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 57 contracts, followed by Canada with five and Mexico with one contract.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in March 2022

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 22 contracts and a 73.3% share, followed by wind with six contracts and a 20% share and biopower with two contracts and a 6.7% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in March 2022, with 18 contracts, followed by Energy Storage (9) and Power Plant (7).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 18 contracts and a 54.5% share
  2. Supply & Erection: eight contracts and a 24.2% share
  3. Project Implementation: four contracts and a 12.1% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 9.1% share.

Power contracts in March 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. EPA Green Power Partner and QTS Realty Trust (United States): 350MW from one contract
  2. Sacramento Municipal Utility District (United States): 200MW from one contract
  3. Ranger Power (United States) and DE Shaw Renewable Investments (United States): 189MW capacity from two contracts.

Power contracts in March 2022: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Georgia Power (United States): 350MW from one contract
  2. DE Shaw Renewable Investments (United States): 200MW from one contract
  3. McCarthy Building Companies (United States): 189MW capacity from two contracts.
