Power industry contracts in North America for May 2022 down 43%

North America power industry contracts activity in May 2022 saw 35 contracts announced, marking a drop of 43% over the last 12-month average of 61, according to GlobalData’s power database.

North America power industry contracts in May 2022: The US leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in May 2022 with 31 contracts and a share of 88.6%, up 5.6% over the previous month and down 43% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by with two contracts and a share of 5.7% and Canada with two contracts and a share of 5.7% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 54 contracts, followed by Canada with five and Mexico with one contract.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in May 2022

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 22 contracts and a 71% share, followed by wind with seven contracts and a 22.6% share and nuclear with one contract and a 3.2% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in May 2022, with 13 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (9) and Energy Storage (9).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 13 contracts and a 37.1% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: nine contracts and a 25.7% share
  3. Project Implementation: nine contracts and a 25.7% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two contracts and a 5.7% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: two contracts and a 5.7% share.

Power contracts in May 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners KS (Denmark): 750MW from one contract
  2. Amazon.com (United States): 450MW from one contract
  3. Global Energy Generation (United States) and AEP Energy Partners (United States): 400MW capacity from one contract.

Power contracts in May 2022: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Exus Management Partners (Spain): 750MW from one contract
  2. The AES (United States): 450MW from one contract
  3. SOLV Energy (United States) and Global Energy Generation (United States): 400MW capacity from one contract.
