Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of contracts for the quarter, accounting for 128 contracts and a 75.3% share, followed by Offshore with 41 contracts and a 24.1% share. Onshore Repowered stood in third place with one contract and a 0.6% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the second position in terms of number of contracts during Q3 2019 with a 25.6% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  2. Project Implementation: 40 contracts and a 23.4% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 39 contracts and a 22.8% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 15 contracts and an 8.8% share
  5. Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 1.8% share
  6. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 1.8% share.

Europe leads wind contracts activity in Q3 2019

Comparing contracts activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 71 contracts and a share of 41.5% during Q3 2019, followed by North America with 52 contracts and a 30.4% share and Asia-Pacific with 28 contracts and a 16.4% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with 15 contracts and an 8.8% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with five contracts and a 2.9% share.

The top issuers of contracts in Wind technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Monterey Bay Community Power (United States): 1,000MW from one contract (MoU signed)
  2. AT&T (United States): 960MW from two contracts
  3. EDF Renewables North America (United States): 514MW capacity from two contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Infrastructure and Energy Alternatives (United States): 1,316MW from five contracts
  2. Castle Wind (United States): 1,000MW from one contract (MoU signed)
