Global power industry contracts in Q3 2020: Biopower technology down 11%

Biopower technology contracts activity in Q3 2020 saw 25 contracts announced, marking a drop of 11% over the last four-quarter average of 28, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, biopower held the fifth position in terms of number of contracts during Q3 2020 with a 2.6% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Biopower technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: ten contracts and a 40% share
  2. Project Implementation: eight contracts and a 32% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 12% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: three contracts and a 12% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 4% share.

Asia-Pacific leads biopower contracts activity in Q3 2020

Comparing contracts activity in biopower technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 16 contracts and a share of 64% during Q3 2020, followed by Europe with six contracts and a 24% share and South and Central America with two contracts and an 8% share.

Biopower technology contracts in Q3 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Biopower technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Ichihara Yawatafuto Biomass Power Godo Kaisha: 75MW from one contract
  2. SmartestEnergy (United Kingdom): 42MW from one contract
  3. TTC Group: 20MW capacity from one contract.

  1. Toyo Engineering (Japan): 75MW from one contract

  3. China Gezhouba Group (China): 20MW capacity from one contract.
