Power industry contracts in September 2020: Europe leads global activity
On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 123 contracts and a share of 35.1% during September 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 98 contracts and a 28% share and North America with 80 contracts and a 22.9% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 30 contracts and an 8.6% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 19 contracts and a 5.4% share.
On the basis of the last 12-month average, Europe held a lead over others with 161 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 87.

Solar tops by technology in September 2020
Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 125 contracts and a 41.9% share, followed by wind with 99 contracts and a 33.2% share and thermal with 38 contracts and a 12.8% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment during September 2020, with 125 contracts, followed by Power Plant (87) and Electricity Procurement (81).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 157 contracts and a 44.9% share
- Project Implementation: 78 contracts and a 22.3% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 73 contracts and a 20.9% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 19 contracts and a 5.4% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 14 contracts and a 4% share
- Electricity Supply: eight contracts and a 2.3% share
- Others: one contract and a 0.3% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Taiwan Power (Taiwan): 6,500MW from one contract
- Total (France): 3,300MW from one contract
- Hin Kong Power (Thailand): 1,400MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- CTCI (Taiwan) and General Electric International (United States): 6,500MW from one contract
- SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction (China): 3,320MW from two contracts
- Ignis Energia (Spain): 3,300MW capacity from one contract.
