South and Central America power industry contracts in Q1 2022: Brazil leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, Brazil led the activity in Q1 2022 with 16 contracts and a share of 43.2%, down 3.6% over the previous quarter and down 36% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by the Dominican Republic with six contracts and a share of 16.2% and Colombia with five contracts and a share of 13.5% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, Brazil held the top spot with 25 contracts, followed by Chile with eight and Colombia with five contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q1 2022

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 20 contracts and a 58.8% share, followed by wind with eight contracts and a 23.5% share and thermal with three contracts and an 8.8% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment in South and Central America power contracts activity during Q1 2022, with 16 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (10) and Power Plant (8).
