Global power industry tenders in April 2020: Thermal technology down 9%

Thermal technology tenders activity in April 2020 saw 157 tenders announced, marking a drop of 9% over the last 12-month average of 173, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Oil was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of tenders for the month, accounting for 108 tenders and a 69.7% share, followed by Coal with 41 tenders and a 26.5% share. Gas stood in third place with six tenders and a 3.9% share.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the top position in terms of number of tenders during April 2020 with a 65.4% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 93 tenders and a 59.2% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 61 tenders and a 38.9% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: three tenders and a 1.9% share.

North America leads thermal tenders activity in April 2020

Comparing tenders activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 75 tenders and a share of 47.8% during April 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 62 tenders and a 39.5% share and Europe with 17 tenders and a 10.8% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with three tenders and a 1.9% share.

The top issuer of tenders in Thermal technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved was:Societe Beninoise d’Electricite et d’Eau (Benin) with 120MW from one tender.
