Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in Q3 2021: Pakistan leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, Pakistan led the activity in Q3 2021 with 155 tenders and a share of 26.9%, up 3.6% over the previous quarter and up 49% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by the Philippines with 121 tenders and a share of 21% and India with 64 tenders and a share of 11.1% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, India held the top spot with 399 tenders, followed by Pakistan with 104 and the Philippines with 60 tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in Q3 2021

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 119 tenders and a 48.6% share, followed by thermal with 105 tenders and a 42.9% share and hydro with 12 tenders and a 4.9% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in Asia-Pacific power tenders activity during Q3 2021, with 217 tenders, followed by Power Plant (125) and Generation Equipment (109).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 290 tenders and a 50.3% share
  2. Project Implementation: 179 tenders and a 31.1% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 67 tenders and an 11.6% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 35 tenders and a 6.1% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: three tenders and a 0.5% share
  6. Electricity Supply: two tenders and a 0.3% share.

Power tenders in Q3 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. NHPC (India): 2,345MW from six tenders
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,301MW from three tenders
  3. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution (India): 1,287MW capacity from three tenders.
