Power industry tenders in August 2020: Asia-Pacific leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 331 tenders and a share of 41.7% during August 2020, followed by North America with 236 tenders and a 29.7% share and Europe with 112 tenders and a 14.1% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 83 tenders and a 10.5% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 32 tenders and a 4% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 522 tenders, followed by North America with 157.

Thermal tops by technology in August 2020

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 182 tenders and a 52.1% share, followed by solar with 131 tenders and a 37.5% share and hydro with 15 tenders and a 4.3% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment during August 2020, with 277 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (176) and T&D Project (175).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 382 tenders and a 48.1% share
  2. Project Implementation: 239 tenders and a 30.1% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 135 tenders and a 17% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 24 tenders and a 3% share
  5. Electricity Supply: six tenders and a 0.8% share
  6. Others: four tenders and a 0.5% share
  7. Power Purchase Agreement: four tenders and a 0.5% share.

Power tenders in August 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Ministry of Climate (Poland): 3,200MW from one tender
  2. Department of Mineral Resources and Energy: 2,000MW from one tender
  3. NTPC (India): 1,070.13MW capacity from two tenders.
