Power industry tenders in December 2019: Asia-Pacific leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 564 tenders and a share of 63.8% during December 2019, followed by North America with 141 tenders and a 16% share and Middle East and Africa with 88 tenders and a 10% share.

In fourth place was Europe with 83 tenders and a 9.4% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with eight tenders and a 0.9% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 622 tenders, followed by Middle East and Africa with 140.

Thermal tops by technology in December 2019

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 177 tenders and a 59.4% share, followed by solar with 90 tenders and a 30.2% share and hydro with 15 tenders and a 5% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment during December 2019, with 374 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (200) and Generation Equipment (168).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 334 tenders and a 37.8% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 296 tenders and a 33.5% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 222 tenders and a 25.1% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 20 tenders and a 2.3% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: eight tenders and a 0.9% share
  6. Electricity Supply: four tenders and a 0.5% share.

Power tenders in December 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,400MW from two tenders
  2. NTPC (India): 1,523.87MW from four tenders
  3. Bundesnetzagentur (Germany): 1,000MW capacity from two tenders.
