Power industry tenders in January 2021: North America leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 203 tenders and a share of 34.4% during January 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with 188 tenders and a 31.9% share and Middle East and Africa with 120 tenders and a 20.3% share.

In fourth place was Europe with 58 tenders and a 9.8% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 21 tenders and a 3.6% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 421 tenders, followed by North America with 213.

Thermal tops by technology in January 2021

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 135 tenders and a 46.6% share, followed by solar with 112 tenders and a 38.6% share and hydro with 15 tenders and a 5.2% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment during January 2021, with 195 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (145) and T&D Project (110).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 275 tenders and a 46.6% share
  2. Project Implementation: 147 tenders and a 24.9% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 132 tenders and a 22.4% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 23 tenders and a 3.9% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: seven tenders and a 1.2% share
  6. Others: six tenders and a 1% share.

Power tenders in January 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Bundelkhand Saur Urja (India): 1,200MW from one tender
  2. Ministere de l’Ecologie, du Developpement Durable des Transports et du Logement: 1,050MW from one tender
  3. Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (India): 500MW capacity from one tender.
