Power industry tenders in June 2020: Asia-Pacific leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 422 tenders and a share of 54.7% during June 2020, followed by North America with 227 tenders and a 29.4% share and Europe with 93 tenders and a 12% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with 17 tenders and a 2.2% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with 13 tenders and a 1.7% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 563 tenders, followed by North America with 142.

Thermal tops by technology in June 2020

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 132 tenders and a 46.2% share, followed by solar with 114 tenders and a 39.9% share and hydro with 16 tenders and a 5.6% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment during June 2020, with 268 tenders, followed by T&D Project (214) and Generation Equipment (142).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 345 tenders and a 44.7% share
  2. Project Implementation: 253 tenders and a 32.8% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 149 tenders and a 19.3% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 13 tenders and a 1.7% share
  5. Electricity Supply: five tenders and a 0.6% share
  6. Power Purchase Agreement: four tenders and a 0.5% share
  7. Others: three tenders and a 0.4% share.

Power tenders in June 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Railway Energy Management (India): 1,400MW from two tenders
  2. The AES (United States): 1,000MW from one tender
  3. Santee Cooper (United States) and Central Electric Power Coop (United States): 500MW capacity from one tender.
