Global power industry tenders in June 2020: Solar technology up 11%

Solar technology tenders activity in June 2020 saw 114 tenders announced, marking a rise of 11% over the last 12-month average of 103, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the second position in terms of number of tenders during June 2020 with a 39.9% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 92 tenders and an 80.7% share
  2. Supply & Erection: ten tenders and an 8.8% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: five tenders and a 4.4% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: three tenders and a 2.6% share
  5. Electricity Supply: two tenders and a 1.8% share
  6. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two tenders and a 1.8% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar tenders activity in June 2020

Comparing tenders activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 84 tenders and a share of 73.7% during June 2020, followed by North America with 16 tenders and a 14% share and Europe with seven tenders and a 6.1% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with four tenders and a 3.5% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with three tenders and a 2.6% share.

Solar technology tenders in June 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Railway Energy Management (India): 1,400MW from two tenders
  2. The AES (United States): 1,000MW from one tender
  3. Santee Cooper (United States) and Central Electric Power Coop (United States): 500MW capacity from one tender.
