Power industry tenders in March 2021: North America leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 233 tenders and a share of 34.2% during March 2021, followed by Middle East and Africa with 216 tenders and a 31.7% share and Asia-Pacific with 101 tenders and a 14.8% share.

In fourth place was Europe with 90 tenders and a 13.2% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 42 tenders and a 6.2% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 364 tenders, followed by North America with 222.

Thermal tops by technology in March 2021

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 123 tenders and a 45.2% share, followed by solar with 116 tenders and a 42.6% share and hydro with 20 tenders and a 7.4% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment during March 2021, with 301 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (131) and Power Plant (126).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 418 tenders and a 61.3% share
  2. Project Implementation: 167 tenders and a 24.5% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 65 tenders and a 9.5% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 26 tenders and a 3.8% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: three tenders and a 0.4% share
  6. Others: two tenders and a 0.3% share
  7. Electricity Supply: one tender and a 0.1% share.

Power tenders in March 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Telecommunications Consultants India (India): 5,000MW from one tender
  2. Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (South Africa): 2,600MW from one tender
  3. Solar Energy Corporation of India: 1,785MW capacity from one tender.
