Global power industry tenders in May 2021: Solar technology down 38%

Solar technology tenders activity in May 2021 saw 84 tenders announced, marking a drop of 38% over the last 12-month average of 135, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the second position in terms of number of tenders during May 2021 with a 36.2% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 61 tenders and a 72.6% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 11 tenders and a 13.1% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three tenders and a 3.6% share
  4. Electricity Supply: three tenders and a 3.6% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: three tenders and a 3.6% share
  6. Consulting & Similar Services: two tenders and a 2.4% share
  7. Others: one tender and a 1.2% share.

Middle East and Africa leads solar tenders activity in May 2021

Comparing tenders activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Middle East and Africa held the top position with 23 tenders and a share of 27.4% during May 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with 19 tenders and a 22.6% share and North America with 18 tenders and a 21.4% share.

In fourth place was Europe with 17 tenders and a 20.2% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with seven tenders and an 8.3% share.

Solar technology tenders in May 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Turkey (Turkey): 4,000MW from one tender
  2. Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (Kuwait): 3,000MW from one tender
  3. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution (India): 1,000MW capacity from two tenders.
