Power industry tenders in Middle East and Africa for August 2021 up 19%

Middle East and Africa power industry tenders activity in August 2021 saw 171 tenders announced, marking a rise of 19% over the last 12-month average of 144, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in August 2021: South Africa leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in August 2021 with 87 tenders and a share of 50.9%, down 11.7% over the previous month and up 28% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Kenya with eight tenders and a share of 4.7% and Jordan with seven tenders and a share of 4.1% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 68 tenders, followed by Kenya with ten and Oman with five tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in August 2021

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 33 tenders and a 58.9% share, followed by thermal with 21 tenders and a 37.5% share and hydro with two tenders and a 3.6% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in August 2021, with 96 tenders, followed by Power Plant (30) and Generation Equipment (22).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 109 tenders and a 63.7% share
  2. Project Implementation: 35 tenders and a 20.5% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 15 tenders and an 8.8% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 11 tenders and a 6.4% share
  5. Electricity Supply: one tender and a 0.6% share.

Power tenders in August 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Ministry of Electricity and Water (Kuwait): 7,200MW from two tenders
  2. National Transport Infrastructure Company of Israel: 20MW from one tender
  3. Ministry of Education: 0.25MW capacity from four tenders.
