Electricity procurement contracts in August 2021 saw 93 contracts announced, marking a drop of 7% over the last 12-month average of 100, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 80 contracts and an 86% share
  2. Electricity Supply: eight contracts and an 8.6% share
  3. Project Implementation: five contracts and a 5.4% share.

Asia-Pacific leads electricity procurement activity in August 2021

Comparing contracts activity in electricity procurement segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 36 contracts and a share of 38.7% during August 2021, followed by North America with 32 contracts and a 34.4% share and Europe with 16 contracts and a 17.2% share.

Solar is leading technology for electricity procurement contracts in August 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 61 contracts with a 59.2% share, followed by wind with 30 contracts and a 29.1% share and hydro with six contracts and a 5.8% share.

Electricity procurement contracts in August 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,600MW from five contracts
  2. Tenaga Nasional (Malaysia): 586MW from 13 contracts
  3. RackBank Datacenters and Salt River Project (United States): 500MW capacity from one contract.

Electricity procurement contracts in August 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. ReNew Power Ventures Pvt (India): 900MW from two contracts
  2. NTPC (India): 550MW from two contracts
  3. Ayana Renewable Power Pvt (India) and Salt River Project (United States): 450MW capacity from one contract.
