Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in May 2022: South Africa leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in May 2022 with 30 tenders and a share of 71.4%, down 4.3% over the previous month and down 57% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Sierra Leone with two tenders and a share of 4.8% and Rwanda with two tenders and a share of 4.8% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 69 tenders, followed by Kenya with six and Zimbabwe with five tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in May 2022

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with four tenders and a 57.1% share, followed by thermal with two tenders and a 28.6% share and hydro with one tender and a 14.3% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in May 2022, with 31 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (4) and Power Plant (3).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 36 tenders and an 85.7% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: three tenders and a 7.1% share
  3. Project Implementation: two tenders and a 4.8% share
