Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in November 2021: South Africa leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in November 2021 with 83 tenders and a share of 48%, down 2% over the previous month and down 3% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Zimbabwe with 14 tenders and a share of 8.1% and Bahrain with ten tenders and a share of 5.8% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 86 tenders, followed by Kenya with 11 and Jordan with five tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in November 2021

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 36 tenders and a 75% share, followed by thermal with eight tenders and a 16.7% share and hydro with three tenders and a 6.3% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in November 2021, with 95 tenders, followed by Power Plant (37) and T&D Project (26).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 102 tenders and a 59% share
  2. Project Implementation: 46 tenders and a 26.6% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 16 tenders and a 9.2% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: nine tenders and a 5.2% share.

Power tenders in November 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Saudi Power Procurement (Saudi Arabia): 3,600MW from one tender
  2. Ethiopian Electric Power (Ethiopia): 300MW from one tender
  3. Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy: 54.6MW capacity from one tender.
