Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in October 2021: South Africa leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in October 2021 with 110 tenders and a share of 50.2%, down 1% over the previous month and up 39% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Kenya with 13 tenders and a share of 5.9% and Lebanon with nine tenders and a share of 4.1% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 79 tenders, followed by Kenya with ten and Jordan with four tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in October 2021

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 51 tenders and a 66.2% share, followed by thermal with 22 tenders and a 28.6% share and wind with three tenders and a 3.9% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in October 2021, with 106 tenders, followed by Power Plant (46) and T&D Project (35).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 125 tenders and a 57.1% share
  2. Project Implementation: 69 tenders and a 31.5% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 19 tenders and an 8.7% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: five tenders and a 2.3% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: one tender and a 0.5% share.

Power tenders in October 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Renewable Energy and Electricity Efficiency Organization: 10,000MW from one tender
  2. Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (South Africa): 2,600MW from one tender
  3. Specialized Sun for Renewable Energy: 100MW capacity from one tender.
