Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in September 2021: South Africa leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in September 2021 with 108 tenders and a share of 51.4%, up 2.2% over the previous month and up 48% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Zimbabwe with 14 tenders and a share of 6.7% and Uganda with 12 tenders and a share of 5.7% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 73 tenders, followed by Kenya with ten and Oman with four tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in September 2021

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 37 tenders and a 51.4% share, followed by thermal with 32 tenders and a 44.4% share and geothermal with one tender and a 1.4% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in September 2021, with 115 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (36) and Power Plant (32).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 141 tenders and a 67.1% share
  2. Project Implementation: 37 tenders and a 17.6% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 22 tenders and a 10.5% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: ten tenders and a 4.8% share.

Power tenders in September 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Ministere de l’Energie (Algeria): 1,000MW from one tender
  2. Specialized Sun for Renewable Energy: 100MW from one tender
  3. Exxaro Resources (South Africa): 70MW capacity from one tender.
