Asia-Pacific power plant contracts activity down 27% in August 2021

There were 36 power plant contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in August 2021, marking a drop of 27% over the last 12-month average of 49, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Electricity Procurement stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in August 2021 with 36 contracts and a 31.3% share, followed by Power Plant with 36 contracts and a 31.3% share and Generation Equipment with 16 contracts and a 13.9% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 28 contracts and a 77.8% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: six contracts and a 16.7% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two contracts and a 5.6% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in August 2021

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 21 contracts with a 51.2% share, followed by wind with 12 contracts and a 29.3% share and hydro with four contracts and a 9.8% share.

Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in August 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Hubei Energy Group Xiangyang Yicheng Power Generation: 2,000MW from one contract
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,200MW from four contracts
  3. Tsingshan Holding Group (China): 1,140MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 2,000MW from one contract
  2. Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction (China): 1,140MW from one contract
  3. Ayana Renewable Power Pvt (India) and NTPC (India): 450MW capacity from one contract.
