North America power industry tenders in January 2022: The US leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, the US led the activity in January 2022 with 126 tenders and a share of 78.3%, down 1.8% over the previous month and down 31% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with 35 tenders and a share of 21.7%.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 182 tenders, followed by Canada with 48.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in January 2022

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 48 tenders and a 68.6% share, followed by solar with 16 tenders and a 22.9% share and hydro with four tenders and a 5.7% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in January 2022, with 70 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (51) and Energy Storage (25).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 122 tenders and a 75.8% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 27 tenders and a 16.8% share
  3. Project Implementation: nine tenders and a 5.6% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: three tenders and a 1.9% share.

Power tenders in January 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Indiana Michigan Power (United States): 1,300MW from one tender
  2. Appalachian Power (United States): 1,100MW from one tender
  3. Department of Defence – United States (United States) and Town of Taber (Canada): 0.9MW capacity from one tender.
