North America power industry tenders in Q4 2021: The US leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, the US led the activity in Q4 2021 with 538 tenders and a share of 78.2%, down 2.4% over the previous quarter and down 2% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Canada with 150 tenders and a share of 21.8%.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, the US held the top spot with 547 tenders, followed by Canada with 134 and Puerto Rico with one tender.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in Q4 2021

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 269 tenders and a 79.8% share, followed by solar with 51 tenders and a 15.1% share and hydro with 11 tenders and a 3.3% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in North America power tenders activity during Q4 2021, with 280 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (273) and Energy Storage (53).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 490 tenders and a 71.2% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 135 tenders and a 19.6% share
  3. Project Implementation: 44 tenders and a 6.4% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: seven tenders and a 1% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: six tenders and a 0.9% share
  6. Electricity Supply: five tenders and a 0.7% share

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Public Works and Government Services Canada: 255,000MW from one tender
  2. Georgia Power (United States): 1,030MW from one tender
  3. Hydro-Quebec (Canada): 780MW capacity from two tenders.
