Power industry tenders in Q1 2020: Asia-Pacific leads global activity
On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 1,448 tenders and a share of 63% during Q1 2020, followed by North America with 498 tenders and a 21.7% share and Europe with 186 tenders and an 8.1% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 133 tenders and a 5.8% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 35 tenders and a 1.5% share.
On the basis of the last four-quarter average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 1,895 tenders, followed by Middle East and Africa with 422.

Thermal tops by technology in Q1 2020
Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 397 tenders and a 51.1% share, followed by solar with 291 tenders and a 37.5% share and hydro with 42 tenders and a 5.4% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in global power tenders activity during Q1 2020, with 850 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (680) and Generation Equipment (385).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 937 tenders and a 40.7% share
- Supply & Erection: 919 tenders and a 40% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 351 tenders and a 15.3% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 59 tenders and a 2.6% share
- Electricity Supply: 20 tenders and a 0.9% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 14 tenders and a 0.6% share.
Power tenders in Q1 2020: Top companies by capacity
The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 11,484MW from nine tenders
- Ministry of Economic Affairs ROC (Taiwan): 10,000MW from one tender
- New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (United States): 6,400MW capacity from five tenders.
