Global power industry tenders in Q2 2021: Solar technology down 4%

Solar technology tenders activity in Q2 2021 saw 372 tenders announced, marking a drop of 4% over the last four-quarter average of 386, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the second position in terms of number of tenders during Q2 2021 with a 40.6% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 278 tenders and a 74.7% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 39 tenders and a 10.5% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 21 tenders and a 5.6% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 14 tenders and a 3.8% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: 12 tenders and a 3.2% share
  6. Electricity Supply: six tenders and a 1.6% share
  7. Others: two tenders and a 0.5% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar tenders activity in Q2 2021

Comparing tenders activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 132 tenders and a share of 35.5% during Q2 2021, followed by Middle East and Africa with 84 tenders and a 22.6% share and Europe with 73 tenders and a 19.6% share.

In fourth place was North America with 67 tenders and an 18% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 16 tenders and a 4.3% share.

Solar technology tenders in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Solar technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Turkey (Turkey): 4,000MW from one tender
  2. Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (Kuwait): 3,000MW from one tender
  3. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution (India): 2,800MW capacity from 32 tenders.
