Global power industry tenders in Q2 2021: Hydro technology down 25%

Hydro technology tenders activity in Q2 2021 saw 45 tenders announced, marking a drop of 25% over the last four-quarter average of 60, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, hydro held the fourth position in terms of number of tenders during Q2 2021 with a 4.9% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Hydro technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 19 tenders and a 42.2% share
  2. Project Implementation: 11 tenders and a 24.4% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: eight tenders and a 17.8% share
  4. Electricity Supply: three tenders and a 6.7% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: two tenders and a 4.4% share
  6. Others: one tender and a 2.2% share
  7. Power Purchase Agreement: one tender and a 2.2% share.

Asia-Pacific leads hydro tenders activity in Q2 2021

Comparing tenders activity in hydro technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 15 tenders and a share of 33.3% during Q2 2021, followed by North America with 12 tenders and a 26.7% share and Middle East and Africa with nine tenders and a 20% share.

In fourth place was Europe with eight tenders and a 17.8% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with one tender and a 2.2% share.

Hydro technology tenders in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Hydro technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. State of Vermont (United States): 12.4MW from one tender
  2. Government of Gilgit Baltistan (Pakistan): 9MW from two tenders
  3. Alternative Energy Promotion Center (Nepal): 0.05MW capacity from one tender.
