Global power industry tenders in September 2020: Solar technology up 36%

Solar technology tenders activity in September 2020 saw 144 tenders announced, marking a rise of 36% over the last 12-month average of 106, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the second position in terms of number of tenders during September 2020 with a 40.2% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 109 tenders and a 75.7% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 12 tenders and an 8.3% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 11 tenders and a 7.6% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: seven tenders and a 4.9% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four tenders and a 2.8% share
  6. Electricity Supply: one tender and a 0.7% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar tenders activity in September 2020

Comparing tenders activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 89 tenders and a share of 61.8% during September 2020, followed by Europe with 19 tenders and a 13.2% share and North America with 16 tenders and an 11.1% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 14 tenders and a 9.7% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with six tenders and a 4.2% share.

Solar technology tenders in September 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Bundesnetzagentur (Germany): 18,800MW from one tender
  2. National Energy Regulator of South Africa (South Africa): 12,000MW from one tender
  3. The World Bank Group (United States): 1,000MW capacity from one tender.
